1. Imagine that you wanted to buy something illegal but you can’t use cash because the seller isn’t geographically close to you. How would you do it?
   The first thing you’d have to do is spend real money on something that is legal and perfectly innocuous and can be easily transferred across the internet. In this case, that thing is a long series of numbers. Then you trade that series of numbers to someone and hope you receive the thing you wanted to buy.
   That’s basically it; everything else is designed to answer one of the million questions you might have surrounding this, like how do you guarantee that number is worth something (manufactured scarcity via “mining”), or how do you make sure the transaction gets recorded (in this case, the “blockchain”), or how do you prevent a basic money laundering scheme from getting outlawed (pretend its an investment and convince millions of gullible people to argue that it’s the future, all while pretending its far more complicated than it actually is).
